Spare Me made all, ridden 2 out, stayed on well
Imtihan tracked leaders, went 2nd 7th, hung left and kept on same pace run-in
Sun King held up in touch, effort 2 out, stayed on last 150yds
Coconut Beach mid-division, went prominent 6th, kept on one pace from 2 out
Rawaabet held up in rear, headway 7th, soon chasing leaders, hung right and one pace run-in
Supsonic chased leaders, weakened last, eased
Florentino soon tracking leaders, ridden and weakened approaching 2 out
Cleopatras Therapy held up towards rear, headway 6th, ridden next, soon lost place
Moon Melody chased winner, reminders 6th, ridden and lost place after 3 out
Nessen Dorma in rear, driven 4th, detached 6th, tailed off next
Iloveturtle not fluent in rear, behind from 3rd, tailed off 7th
It resulted in a one-two for the Sue Smith stable with SPARE ME making every yard to hold off his stable-companion Imtihan.
The winner disappointed on his return to action last month, but he is a proven stayer with an obvious chance at these weights and his rider made full use of his stamina. Jumping well in the lead, he quickened from the front rounding the home bend and basically outstayed his rivals.
Imtihan was never far away and tried his best, but could never quite get on terms with his stablemate. Returning from 16 months off but proven in these conditions, he is at least entitled to come on from this.
Sun King, off since March but in decent form when last seen and by far the best in at these weights, was given a more patient ride than the front pair and looked a danger when moving up to challenge on the outside between the last two flights, but his effort then flattened out and perhaps he just needed it.
Rawaabet, in good form in recent months and winner of a similar event on his debut for the yard at Fontwell four days earlier, crept into contention starting the final bend and he had every chance, but he didn't seem to get home and perhaps this slightly longer trip found him out in the ground.
Supsonic, pulled up on his return to action earlier this month and without the blinkers this time, showed up for a long way but eventually dropped out as though not staying.
