WHISKY MAGIC, representing a stable in sizzling form, was having his first run since finishing unplaced in a Grade 2 bumper at Newbury on his racecourse debut in February. After pulling his way to the front jumping the first, he was quickly able to establish a long lead but didn't appear to be expending too much energy to do so. Given a breather at halfway, he kept enough in reserve and found plenty when challenged over the last half-mile. He did look a little novicey at a few of the hurdles, so is open to improvement on that score and as he cost connections 130,000euros, he is obviously held in high regard. He should go on from here.
Oscar Honey, placed in a couple of Irish Graded chases in the spring and making his debut for the yard, was back over hurdles on this first run since pulling up over fences in May and was sent off a very well-backed favourite. Content to lead the main group adrift of the winner, he was close enough starting up the home straight but he lost impetus with a clumsy jump at the second last and was held when drifting right over to the stands' rail under pressure on the run-in.
Rockiteer, promising on hishurdling debut last month, had every chance but didn't seem to get home and still has a bit to prove.
Wistow, a faller on her hurdling debut earlier this month, never looked like winning but at least she completed and can probably find a small race in due course.
Spare Days was disappointing, but he was weak in the market, which was hardly encouraging.
Take Me There was taking a step up in trip, but he was under pressure and going nowhere before stamina became an issue and perhaps hedidn't like the ground.
