Justabout showed little in bumpers and over hurdles, but was always likely to make a better chaser being a son of Dubacilla, who wasplaced in both the Gold Cup and the Grand National. He had no chance with the winner once headed but stuck on for second and this was a pleasing return after more than six months off. A greater test of stamina will suit this half-brother to staying chaser Mister Quasimodo.
Charming Oscar was down on his nose at the final ditch when beginning to improve and collided with Justabout when disputing second two out. He was another returning from a lengthy break and this was better than he showed over fences last term.
Alecia found this too sharp and was receiving early remainders before staying on all too late. Faraday, a failed gamble for an all-weather handicap since his chasing debut, did not achieve much back in sixth and again his jumping left something to be desired.
Chase debutant Strategic Plan was held in fifth when he blundered two out and was quickly pulled up.
